A Heart Divided
Lisa Carroll
Mixed media on canvas
24 × 36 inches
Lisa’s Ladies series
A face divided into pink and yellow holds two expressions within one portrait. Oversized eyes with heart-shaped pupils look outward, while tears fall on one side and a curved smile lifts the other. Sweeping white lines, pink starbursts, and an embellished flower surround her.
Part of my ongoing Lisa’s Ladies series, A Heart Divided explores the experience of holding conflicting emotions at once. Love and hurt, hope and sadness share the same face, revealing how much a single expression can contain.
